Qatar Airways signs naming and branding rights of HIA Metro Station as Hamad International Airport Station – Qatar Airways

Agreement signed during second day of Cityscape Qatar, one day after the unveiling of Hamad International Airport’s second expansion phase

DOHA, Qatar, 2019-Oct-25 — /Travel PR News/ — Qatar Airways is pleased to announce it has signed a naming and branding rights agreement with Qatar Rail to name Hamad International Airport (HIA) Metro Station as Hamad International Airport Station – Qatar Airways.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Municipality and Environment and Qatar Rail Managing Director, His Excellency Eng. Abdulla Abdulaziz al Subaie and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive and Qatar National Tourism Council Secretary-General, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker on the second day of Cityscape Qatar.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive and Qatar National Tourism Council Secretary-General, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are proud to secure the naming rights of the Metro Station at our home and hub Hamad International Airport. The integration of the Qatar Rail network with the expanding Hamad International Airport demonstrates the country’s preparations to host the 2022 World Cup are on track and will ensure travelers enjoy a seamless, smooth transport experience when visiting our country.”

Construction of Phase A of HIA’s expansion is planned to commence by early 2020 and will increase the airport’s capacity to more than 53 million passengers annually by 2022. Phase B will be completed after 2022 and will extend concourses D and E and will increase the airport’s capacity to more than 60 million passengers annually. The jewel of HIA’s expansion project will be a spectacular 10,000 sqm indoor tropical garden in an easily accessible central concourse with a 268 sqm water feature as its focal point.

HIA was ranked as the fourth-best airport in the world and the best airport in the Middle East at the SKYTRAX World Airport Awards 2019, is now in its sixth year of operations. It has served over 187 million passengers at its state-of-the-art terminal since opening in 2014 to date. HIA is currently a candidate for “World Best Airport” for the SKYTRAX World Airport Awards 2020.
