Montreal, CANADA, 2013-07-03 — /travelprnews.com/ — Qatar Airways officially announced that its relationship with the city of Montréal has further blossomed as the award-winning airline became the co-presenter of Mosaïcultures Internationales Montréal 2013 (MIM2013) at the Montreal Botanical Gardens.

Almost two years to the day since the launch of its inaugural route to Montreal, Qatar Airways participated in the opening ceremony of MIM2013, kicking off what has become the world’s most prestigious competition of horticultural art, and reinforcing the company’s strong ties to the local community.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: “We are proud to be the co-presenting sponsor of the 2013 edition of the Mosaicultures Internationales in Montreal. The botanical masterpieces are truly impressive, showcasing wonderful talent from around the world.

“These exhibits show the rich and vibrant experiences this great city of Montreal offers year round to its own citizens, as well as to travellers visiting Montreal either for the first time or on a repeat visit.”

Qatar Airways Country Manager Canada, Riyaz Saduddeen added: “Qatar Airways believes in integrating ourselves in the communities we serve, and we are honoured to support such a prestigious event and help the Montreal Botanical Garden brighten up the city even more.”

Several dignitaries and senior officials gathered before an audience of over 1,000 guests at the launch event of the horticultural art exhibition.

Guests included Mr. Pascal Bérubé, Minister for Tourism; Mr. Yasutomo Suzuki, Mayor of Hamamatsu; Mr. Ghislain Picard, Chief of the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador; Mr. Louis L. Roquet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mosaïcultures Internationales de Montréal; Ms. Lise Cormier, President of the International Mosaiculture Committee; Mr. Charles-Mathieu Brunelle, Director of Space for Life; and Mr. Gilles Vincent, Director of the Montreal Botanical Garden.

“Since the first edition of the horticultural event 13 years ago, the expertise of the mosaiculture crafts people has developed, reaching an unequalled level of excellence. The jury will have very difficult choices to make, at both the international and national levels,” declared Ms. Cormier, President of the International Mosaiculture Committee.

Qatar Airways’ partnership with the international horticultural competition includes a variety of activities that will allow MIM2013 visitors to travel around the world without ever leaving the city.

The Land of Hope exhibit at the Montreal Botanical Gardens is open until September 29.

Visitors will have a chance to win a prize trip for two when they place their votes for their favourite botanical piece. The Qatar Airways People’s Choice Award will see two lucky winners set out on a trip to Doha, Qatar – the airline’s home – with Business Class return tickets and five nights’ accommodation.

The winner will be named at the end of the competition on September 29.

This year, more than 50 creations from 20 countries are on show. The event will test the participants’ ingenuity as they compete to win the Grand Honorary Award given by the international jury, as well as the Qatar Airways People’s Choice Award.

Visitors will also be invited to the Qatar Airways International Hub to discover the countries represented in the competition. While there, they can vote for their favorite horticultural work of art, thereby participating in the process of awarding the Qatar Airways Peoples’ Choice Award.

The 2013 edition aims to amaze visitors while raising their awareness of the importance of preserving the richness of life on Earth.

Organisers have integrated sustainable development practices at every level. Mosaïcultures Internationales Montréal 2013 is the largest event ever to have received green certification from the City of Montreal. This certification meets the environmental requirements of the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ – Quebec standards bureau).

Qatar Airways International Crossroads

Located at the end of the visit trail in the large exhibit greenhouse, Qatar Airways’ International Crossroads will give visitors the opportunity to learn more about the various horticultural pieces of art they have seen and explore the represented countries through interactive stations and kiosks. This zone truly represents Qatar Airways’ commitment to give Montrealers an instant access to the world and expanding their horizons.
