New Mercedes E-Class starts economy challenge at Nqy Airport

2012-09-27 — /travelprnews.com/ — New Mercedes E300 BlueTEC Hybrid started economy challenge by driving up Newquay Cornwall Airport runway.

Mercedes claims its most efficient E-Class ever combines both performance and efficiency. It says the E300 BlueTEC Hybrid can accelerate from rest to 62mph in 7.5 seconds. It can also achieve a maximum speed for 150mph and return 67 mph while emitting as little as 109 g/km of CO2.

To prove this a challenge was set to drive”entirely normally” 830 miles from Newquay Cornwall Airport (the most southern active airport in mainland Britain) to Wick Airport (the most northern airport in mainland Britain). The entire trip was carried out on a single 80 litre tank of fuel of which quarter remained on its arrival in Wick.

The economy run started with the car and accelerated to 62mph in a little over 7 seconds before achieving a peak of 136mph along the runaway at Nqy airport and finished by reaching a maximum speed of 120mph down the runway at Wick (which is 911 metres shorter than at Newquay Airport).
