2012-10-18 — /travelprnews.com/ — With a whole host of video clips, animations and interactive features, the new edition of the LH Magazin app opens up the exciting world of the Lufthansa fleet, which currently comprises around 400 aircraft. The special edition of the Lufthansa Magazin app presents in detail the 16 aircraft types of the current Lufthansa fleet as well as aircraft from bygone days, all clearly arranged under the headings ‘Intercontinental’, ‘Continental’ and ‘Historic’. Numerous video clips highlight the specific features of the various aircraft and feature pilots and cabin crew describing what they do on board and taking us through the individual cabin classes. In addition, all of the Lufthansa fleet’s cockpits can now be explored interactively. In the Airbus A380 or the Boeing 747-8, for example, the cockpits are visualised by a total of 25 different, high-resolution 360° images. Besides the world’s biggest passenger aircraft and the new jumbo jet, some of the other planes featured include the Airbus A320 family and the modern Embraer 190 and 195 regional jets. One section is also dedicated to the legendary ‘Auntie Ju’, with other historic models likely to follow.
Of particular note are the sequences specially produced for the edition at Hamburg’s ‘Miniatur Wunderland’, the largest scale-model construction of its kind in the world. When the model’s ‘Knuffingen International Airport’ opened in 2011, Lufthansa already boasted the largest fleet, with six model aircraft. And, specifically for the app, ten more special aircraft models were built in cooperation with Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg and now feature in an elaborately filmed clip. After a period of intensive preparation and planning, the team spent three nights filming at Miniatur Wunderland while regular maintenance work was carried out after its doors had closed to the public. The result is some strikingly realistic footage. In the sequences, the 87-centimetre-long model of a Boeing 747-8 looks just as impressive performing a pushback from the hangar onto the apron at Knuffingen Airport as the real aircraft does at Frankfurt Airport.
The app is now available to download for free from the Apple iTunes Store at http://itunes.apple.com/app/lufthansa-magazine/id405521885?mt=8#.
