New Direct Flight Links Terceira Island in the Azores to San Francisco via TAP Air Portugal

(IN SHORT) TAP Air Portugal has inaugurated a new weekly direct flight between Terceira Island in the Azores and San Francisco, part of its Lisbon–San Francisco route. Starting 3 June, this connection supports the large Azorean community in California and promotes the natural and cultural attractions of the Azores to U.S. travelers. The route is operated by an Airbus A330neo and complements recent TAP launches between Porto and Boston, and Lisbon and Los Angeles, reinforcing TAP’s strategic transatlantic growth.

(PRESS RELEASE) LISBON, Portugal, 2025-Jun-9 — /Travel PR News/ — TAP Air Portugal continues to expand its transatlantic network with the launch of a new weekly flight linking the island of Terceira in the Azores to San Francisco, California. Operated every Tuesday, the flight is part of TAP’s existing Lisbon–San Francisco route and marks the airline’s first direct connection between the Azores and the U.S. West Coast.

Flight TP241 touched down in California on June 3, establishing a significant milestone for both the Azorean diaspora and regional tourism. This new service, operated by the Airbus A330neo, highlights TAP’s commitment to creating meaningful links between Portugal and the large Portuguese-American community in the United States, particularly the over 300,000 people of Azorean descent living in California.

In addition to serving the Azorean-American population, the new route opens a gateway for American travelers to explore the natural beauty and cultural richness of the Azores. Terceira’s iconic Algar do Carvão volcanic cave, the Biscoitos natural pools, and the broader archipelago’s attractions — such as Sete Cidades lagoon on São Miguel, Pico Mountain, the Capelinhos volcano on Faial, and renowned whale-watching experiences — are now just one stop away from the West Coast.

The new Azores–San Francisco link follows two other recent TAP route inaugurations:

On 14 May, TAP launched a direct route between Porto and Boston (TP227), offering four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, running through 25 October.

On 16 May, TAP began Lisbon–Los Angeles service with four flights per week, operating on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

With these additions, TAP strengthens its role as a bridge between Portugal and North America, connecting both major cities and underexplored regions like the Azores to key U.S. destinations.
