Metrolink to begin nighttime track maintenance in Orange County over the course of nine weeks beginning Feb. 8

Project will not affect passenger service, however residents near tracks will hear increased nighttime activity

LOS ANGELES, 2016-Feb-06 — /Travel PR News/ — Beginning Monday, Feb. 8, Metrolink will begin replacing 21,000 railroad ties in Orange County over the course of nine weeks between the cities of Orange and San Juan Capistrano.

The project, in conjunction with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), is scheduled to be complete on April 8. The rehabilitation work will not affect passenger train service, however residents near the tracks will hear increased activity weeknights between the approximate hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The replacement work will begin near the Orange Metrolink Station and conclude at the Oso Road crossing in San Juan Capistrano. It will take approximately three weeks for the crew to complete the first track beginning in Orange, while the second track will be upgraded during the subsequent five weeks beginning in San Juan Capistrano.

There may be additional clean-up work after the project is complete, while the schedule also accounts for expected weather-related delays. The project will keep the rail system in a state of good repair.

The crews will be replacing approximately 500 ties a night. A resident near the tracks may hear intermittent work for up to two hours as the crew passes a given point.
