Metrolink receives $7.8 million for crossing improvements

The CTC allocated the funds to make crossings safer for local communities

LOS ANGELES – 2012-10-16 — /travelprnews.com/ — The California Transportation Commission (CTC) approved $7.8 million for five Metrolink grade crossing safety improvement projects. The CTC decided to allocate the Proposition 1B Highway Railroad Crossing Safety Account (HRCSA) funding at its September monthly meeting.

Metrolink will implement safety enhancements to grade crossings. Upgrades include roadway widening, new automatic vehicle exit gates, sidewalks, handrails, automatic pedestrian gates and traffic signal advance preemption technology.

In the city of Moorpark, Metrolink’s Moorpark Avenue Grade Crossing Safety Improvement Project will receive $4.841 million, accounting for 96 percent of the total cost. The effort is part of the Ventura County Sealed Corridor Project. Construction is scheduled to begin in late summer 2013.

Allocations for Grandview and Sonora Avenues, part of the Glendale Corridor Grade Crossing Safety Improvements Project, are $580,000 each. These are two of six crossings that will complete the project.

In Los Angeles, the Branford Street grade crossing project will receive $1.325 million. The total cost of the project is projected to be slightly more than $3 million.

Metrolink’s Woodley Avenue Grade Crossing Safety Improvement Project will receive $500,000 to fund the $1 million effort.
