Massport Board Confirms Thomas Glynn as New CEO
BOSTON 2012-09-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today confirmed Thomas Glynn to serve as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Massachusetts Port Authority overseeing Boston Logan International Airport, the public container and cruise terminals in the Port of Boston, Hanscom Field, Worcester Regional Airport and real estate holdings in metropolitan area.
Glynn, 66, is the former Chief Operating Officer of Partners HealthCare System, the Commonwealth’s largest network of teaching hospitals and neighborhood health centers. Since leaving Partners in 2010, Glynn has worked as an Adjunct Lecturer at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
The Board confirmed him unanimously, noting his vast senior leadership experience and his commitment to public service.
“Tom is a terrific choice to lead the Massport team,” said MassDOT Secretary and CEO and Massport Board Chairman Richard A. Davey. “His proven ability to successfully manage complex organizations coupled with his thoughtful and strategic approach to problems and opportunities will ensure Massport continues to be a leading economic engine for the entire Commonwealth.”
Previously, Glynn has served as General Manager of the MBTA, as well as Deputy Secretary of Labor for the Clinton Administration and Deputy Commissioner of Public Welfare in Massachusetts.

Massport began its search for an Executive Director in February 2011, interviewing more than 40 candidates from inside and outside the United States, before ultimately settling on Glynn.
Glynn takes over from Interim Executive Director David S. Mackey, Massport’s General Counsel. Mackey will remain interim director until Glynn formally assumes the position. Glynn will receive a salary of $250,000 and a compensation package in line with the recommendation included in the so-called Crosby Report.
Glynn is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and a former board member of the Council for Excellence in Government. He has a BA from Tufts University and a PhD from Brandeis University.
In addition to confirming Glynn as CEO, Massport Board member Sean M. O’Brien, appointed by Gov. Patrick this month, began a seven-year term on the board today. O’Brien is the official organized labor representative, required by Massport’s enabling act. In November 2006, when he was 34, O’Brien was elected President of Teamsters Local 25, becoming the youngest principal officer in the 112-year history of the organization. As President of Local 25, O’Brien represents more than 11,000 working men and women throughout Massachusetts – the largest Teamsters’ union in New England.
As a Business Agent, Sean was part of the team that in 2002 negotiated the successful UPS agreement, the largest private employer contract in the world. Sean is dedicated to leading the local union with streamlined ideas and cutting-edge technology, but not abandoning the Local union’s traditional beliefs and principles. He has also renewed Local 25’s commitment to the community, most recently by fundraising for those affected by Autism.
Boston Logan, 15 minutes from the intersection of Route 128 and I-90 and five minutes from downtown Boston, serves as the gateway to the New England region and offers nonstop service to 74 domestic and 32 international destinations and in 2011 handled 28.9 million passengers. Boston Logan is the Air Line Pilot Association’s Airport of the Year for 2008 because of its commitment to safety. Over the past decade, the airport spent $4.5 billion on a modernization program that includes new terminals, public transportation access, parking facilities, roadways and airport concessions, and has been transformed into a world-class 21st Century facility. The airport generates $7 billion in total economic impact each year.
