Massport announces the launch of JetBlue’s nonstop flight from Boston to Havana, Cuba

Logan welcomes the 56th international nonstop destination

Boston, Massachusetts, 2018-Nov-14 — /Travel PR News/ — The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today (November 10, 2018) joined representatives from JetBlue to announce the launch of the airline’s nonstop flight from Boston to Havana, Cuba. This will be the airline’s 68th nonstop destination from Boston and the 56th international destination served by Logan International Airport. The event included dancers from Cuba and local cuisine from the country.

The weekly JetBlue flight will fly from Boston’s Logan International Airport to Havana’s José Martí International Airport on Saturdays. Similar to Logan, the Havana airport is located close to the city’s center.

“We are pleased to announce our new direct route between Boston and Havana, Cuba on JetBlue,” said Massport CEO Thomas P. Glynn. “This flight to Havana is a great additional travel option for customers and we look forward to continuing to expand international travel opportunities in the future.”

Havana is the capital of Cuba, an island in the northern Caribbean where the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean intersect. The island is 90 miles off the coast of Florida and has a population of 11 million people. The city of Havana has a notable collection of Art Deco architecture including hotels, residences and storefronts and is well known for its vintage automobiles from the 1950s, hand-rolled cigars and white sandy beaches.

“As the leading carrier in Boston and the first airline to operate commercial service between the U.S. and Cuba, we are thrilled to celebrate another first as the only airline to offer nonstop service from Boston to Havana,” said Giselle Cortes, director, international BlueCities, JetBlue. “Bostonians will benefit from the new, once-weekly service, which complements JetBlue’s existing nonstop routes from New York, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando – more U.S. gateways than any other airline.”

During the past decade, the number of international nonstop destinations from Logan has more than doubled from 27 to 56 and international passengers now account for almost 19 percent of travelers. In 2017, more than 7 million international passengers traveled through Logan’s newly renovated Terminal E.

JetBlue is the leading carrier in Boston based on number of flights, customers carried and nonstop destinations served. Additionally, JetBlue customers can take advantage of the airline’s more than a dozen partnerships with international carriers – such as Emirates, EL AL, Aer Lingus, Etihad, Qatar Airways and Cape Air – offering destinations around the world. JetBlue is on track to reach 200 daily departures at Logan in the coming years.
