In 2012, Sheremetyevo Airport provided services to more than 26 mln passengers with 90% flight punctuality

2013-01-25 — /travelprnews.com/ — Sheremetyevo International Airport has summarized its production performance for 2012. For the first time in its history, the Airport provided services to 26 million 188 thousand passengers, which is 16.1% more than in 2011. Passenger traffic on international air lines increased by 18.4%, amounting to 17 million 178 thousand passengers, and on domestic air lines — by 12%, amounting to 9 million 10 thousand passengers. In 2012, scheduled and charter air traffic from Sheremetyevo Airport to resort locations increased by 33%, reaching 5 million 215 thousand passengers.

The number of passengers who received service in December 2012 increased by 9.3%, amounting to 1 million 894 thousand passengers. Passenger traffic on international air lines in December increased by 8.2%, amounting to 1 million 165 thousand passengers, and on domestic air lines — by 11.2%, amounting to 729 thousand passengers. The number of takeoff and landing operations in December increased by 3.9%, reaching 18,254 operations.

The greatest increase of passengers in 2012 was recorded for the following airlines: Aeroflot (25% increase, reaching 17 million 656 thousand passengers), Transaero (70% increase, reaching 1 million 887 thousand passengers), Nordwind Airlines (44% increase, reaching 898 thousand passengers), Donavia (49% increase, reaching 612 thousand passengers), Orenburg Airlines (3.4 times increase, reaching 563 thousand passengers), Nordavia (51.3% increase, reaching 494 thousand passengers), Air France (18% increase, reaching 457 thousand passengers), and CSA Czech Airlines (14% increase, reaching 369 thousand passengers).

In 2012, Sheremetyevo Airport provided all the conditions necessary for its main air carrier, Aeroflot, to implement its ambitious development plans, as evidenced by a 25% increase in traffic to/from the airport, amounting to 17 million 656 thousand passengers, and by the notable expansion of the air carrier’s destination network.

2012 also brought success to the Airport’s partnership with Transaero Airlines. This air carrier offered passengers and tourists a wide selection of routes to resort locations and increased the volume of traffic from/to Sheremetyevo by 70%, reaching 1 million 887 thousand passengers.

Aviation Company Vladivostok Avia (with 279 thousand passengers), which began operating flights to/from Sheremetyevo on February 1, 2012, also successfully implemented its flight operations plan. Nordwind Airlines considerably increased the volume of traffic from the Airport as well (897 thousand passengers, a 44% increase).

Among foreign air carriers operating flights to/from Sheremetyevo Airport, Air France, Alitalia, KLM, Air Astana and Air China remained the leaders according to traffic volume in 2012. The most considerable growth according to last year’s results was shown by Estonian Air (97%), LOT — Polish Airlines (33%), SAS (23%), and Air France (18%).

In January — December 2012, the most popular destination points abroad were Antalya, Paris, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, Kiev, Beijing, New-York, Larnaca, and Istanbul, and the most popular domestic destination points were Saint-Petersburg, Sochi, Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok, Rostov-on-Don and Khabarovsk.

In 2012, Sheremetyevo Airport enabled 228,868 takeoff and landing operations to be carried out, which is 8.6% more than last year.Moreover, the flights punctuality amounted to 90%, indicating the high efficiency of production activity and business processes organization.

According to the ACI EUROPE rating, based on the results of November 2012, Sheremetyevo Airport took the leading position in passenger traffic growth (+12.8%) among European airports, with passenger traffic amounting to 10 — 25 million per year.

According to 2012 results, the ACI Europe classification puts Sheremetyevo Airport into the top group of airports providing services to more than 25 million passengers annually.

One of the main events of last year was the full-scale launch of the Airport Operation Centre, acknowledged as the best innovation project in the transport industry. The Airport Operation Centre was created to increase production control efficiency, improve response time to different situations and provide passengers and clients of Sheremetyevo Airport with high safety levels and service quality. In 2012, the Airport Operation Centre ensured the steady and safe activity of aviation and business partners and prevented failures in the Airport’s and airlines’ performance due to internal factors.

The growth of passenger traffic was accompanied by acknowledgement of the service quality. For example, in 2012 Sheremetyevo Airport won the prestigious World Routes Award in the Excellence in Airport Marketing category. This prize was awarded to the Airport for its outstanding achievements in airport marketing and highly efficient partnerships with airlines. Moreover, in 2012 Sheremetyevo Airport won the annual business-award “Company of the Year” in the “Transport, logistics” category, according to the national Company Business Magazine, and the most prestigious award in the tourist business sector, “Condé Nast Traveller’ readers choice” in “The best Russian airport” category.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is the largest Russian airport handling scheduled international flights. The main shareholder of JSC “MASH” is the Federal Agency for State Property Management (83.04%) of the Russian Federation.
