IHG® Army Hotels raised more than $35,000 to support the Tunnel to Towers charity

Hotels all across the country join together to raise funds for military and first responders charity

Denham, United Kingdom, 2021-Nov-17 — /Travel PR News/ — IHG® Hotels & Resorts, one of the world’s leading hotel companies, is once again celebrating hospitality for heroes in November to mark Veteran’s Day and National Veterans and Military Families Month. For the second year, IHG® Army Hotels – a unique portfolio of hotels located on 40 U.S. military installations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico – raised money to support the Tunnel to Towers charity. All IHG Army Hotels locations participated in fundraising by hosting car washes, cookouts, bake sales, and more, this year raising more than $35,000.

IHG Army Hotels is supporting the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This non-profit organization honors the sacrifice of FDNY Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. The foundation also honors military and first responders who are dedicated to serving our country. Beneficiaries include catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, fallen first responder families, and Gold Star families. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation also builds mortgage-free smart homes for wounded veterans and first responders. Each home is designed to address the unique needs of each individual.

This is the second year IHG Army Hotels has raised money for this charity, and hotel teams collectively more than doubled the total amount raised last year. IHG Army Hotels hosted an event to celebrate the check presentation on Friday, Nov. 5, with Todd Hirsch, vice president of philanthropy, from Tunnel to Towers and IHG Hotels and Resorts COO, Jay Caiafa, who is a U.S. Air Force veteran himself.

Jay Caiafa, Chief Operating Officer, IHG, Americas, said: “I am humbled by Stephen Siller’s story and how he sacrificed his life to help so many others. His family carries on his legacy today through the foundation’s work, and we are honored to donate to this organization to further their impact in the military and first responder community. In the hospitality industry, our mission is to serve others, and our IHG Army Hotels colleagues have gone above and beyond to be a positive force for good in their local communities.”

Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, said: “I want to thank IHG Army Hotels for all they do for America’s military community. IHG Army Hotels has a long history of contributing to worthy causes in their communities, and we are honored to receive this donation and their continued support.”

In addition to the support for Tunnel to Towers charity donation, the IHG Army Hotels colleagues participated in other community-centered volunteer efforts benefitting military families and their communities. Team members at IHG Army Hotels properties as well as interns of IHG Army Hotels’ Teen Academy donated salvaged linens and towels to local animal shelters and military dog facilities on post, held a coat and clothing drive benefitting to the American Red Cross on post, held a baby diaper collection to benefit the Texas Diaper Bank, and participated in packing 645 bags of food for children facing hunger throughout Kentucky through Feeding America. IHG Army Hotels team members from IHG’s corporate office, along with other IHG colleagues, participated in Brush with Kindness, a program that provides exterior painting to homes in neighborhoods where Atlanta Habitat for Humanity builds houses.

In addition to providing true hospitality, IHG offers the IHG Military Appreciation Leisure Rate – a military discount for U.S. and Canadian active duty, veterans, retired military personnel, and family members at participating IHG hotels across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

IHG also supports veterans through its IHG Veterans Hiring initiative, which offers comprehensive job listings across IHG corporate offices, IHG Army Hotels, and IHG-branded hotels worldwide. Designed as an easy-to-navigate resource, the hospitality career portal encourages veterans to put their passion to work.
