Iberia assisted nearly 52,000 unaccompanied minors in the first seven months of 2015, 2% more than last year
MADRID, 2015-8-20 — /Travel PR News/ — In the first seven months of 2015, Iberia has assisted nearly 52,000 unaccompanied minors, 2% more than last year.
Summer is one of the peak periods in which the demand for this UM service is higher. Children travelling alone are assisted by specialised staff from the moment they arrive at the airport until their handover to the person authorised to pick them up at their destination. Nearly half of the 52,000 children flew in June and July.
Once aboard the flight, unaccompanied minors are greeted by the purser, and a cabin crew member takes them to their specially marked seats.
When the unaccompanied minors are flying with Iberia, the airline provides real-time information via SMS message to the child’s family or guardian at each stage of the journey: take-off, landing, connections, etc.
On the other hand, all children flying with Iberia are invited to take part in Iberia’s drawing contest during the summer, which this year is focused on the cartoon character Heidi. The winners of the three age categories will get free return trips to Vienna for four people.
Children can also join the airline’s Iberia Plus Kids programme in which they can earn Avios just like the adult members of the Iberia Plus loyalty scheme. They can redeem them as air tickets or other services.
