Hartsfield-Jackson’s international terminal wins development award

Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal receives 2012 Award of Excellence from Urban Land Institute (ULI) Atlanta

ATLANTA 2012-09-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport received the 2012 Award of Excellence from the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Atlanta during a ceremony at the Atlanta History Center on September 20.

“We are honored that the international terminal was recognized by ULI Atlanta for its cutting-edge planning, design and construction,” said Aviation General Manager Louis Miller. “The professionals who worked on this project — the Department of Aviation staff and a team of consultants — provided the necessary expertise in a variety of disciplines to ensure that this project was a success and that the international terminal will continue to make metro Atlanta proud.”

This year there was a tie for the prestigious honor; the other winner was the Global Gateway development in College Park, which connects to the Airport via the ATL SkyTrain that also serves the rental car center.

ULI Atlanta describes the award as recognizing “an outstanding real estate development project or initiative that exemplifies the ULI’s mission of providing leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities. … The award recognizes the full development process of a project.”

ULI Atlanta, an affiliate of the worldwide organization, is a nonprofit with more than 900 members in metro Atlanta. The group promotes research and education related to responsible land use and brings together experts in the field to exchange best practices and ideas.
