Get Ready for English Tourism Week 2013!

2012-11-08 — /travelprnews.com/ — Following the success of the first ever English Tourism Week earlier this year, VisitEngland is calling on the industry to get involved in English Tourism Week 2013. The inaugural event in March saw over 500 special activities and promotions celebrating tourism in England, and the national tourist board is hoping that next year’s festivities – taking place from 16-24 March – will be even bigger and better!

The initiative was designed to inspire people to explore the wealth of attractions and experiences on their doorstep, and to become tourism ambassadors for their local area. This year’s activities spanned the length and breadth of the country, ranging from afternoon teas and English-themed baking competitions to special guided walks, events with local MPs and ‘behind the scenes’ tours at visitor attractions.

Chairman of English Tourism Week and The Tourism Society, David Curtis-Brignell, commented:
“We were delighted with the success of English Tourism Week 2012 and the enthusiastic support it received from both the industry and the public. The whole year has been a fantastic advert for England, with events like the Diamond Jubilee, Torch Relay and London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games shining a light on every corner of the country and prompting a swell of national pride.  English Tourism Week 2013 is the perfect opportunity to harness this ‘feel-good factor’, and promote an industry that is worth £97billion to the economy and employs over 2 million people.

Mr Curtis-Brignell continued:
“Whether you run a tourism business such as a bed and breakfast, visitor attraction or restaurant, or work for a trade body or destination management organisation, English Tourism Week is a great way to kick off your 2013 holiday season.”
