BELFAST, Northern Ireland, 2019-Mar-22 — /Travel PR News/ — Schools across Northern Ireland are being encouraged to put their best foot forward and enter the George Best Belfast City Airport Best Kept Awards before it closes at the end of March.
The Best Kept School Awards, hosted by the Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC), acknowledge and celebrate the schools that go above and beyond to keep their building and the surrounding grounds clean, colourful, and environmentally sustainable.
St. Mary’s Primary School, Draperstown, took the crown last year, being named the overall winner at the awards after judges praised the collaborative efforts of pupils and staff to bring environmental sustainability to the school through flower planting, litter picking, and the creation of an eco-council.
Doreen Muskett, President of the NIAC, has been involved with the awards for nearly 35 years.
She commented:
“The Best Kept School is a prestigious and esteemed title which is given to the school that best demonstrates environmental enhancement, a commitment to looking after their grounds, and participation from students and teachers alike.
“The awards act as a good opportunity for children to get involved and see the reward of hard work first hand. We would encourage schools across the province to enter before it’s too late.”
Victoria College, Belfast, Coleraine High School, and Lisnagelvin Nursery School have historically been the strongest performers, with Victoria taking home 12 prizes since the inception of the Best Kept School Awards in 1991.
Michelle Hatfield, Director of Corporate Services at Belfast City Airport, said:
“It is wonderful to continue our partnership with the Best Kept Awards for a third year as we search for the Best Kept School in Northern Ireland.
“We are able to see the impressive impact that the pupils have on enhancing their schools – from the eco clubs, to volunteers, to initiatives and programmes designed to get the children involved.
“As a leading business in the region, Belfast City Airport considers working with the community and reducing our collective environmental footprint as a key objective. Partnering with the Best Kept Awards helps encourage the next generation to consider their own impact.”
