Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC marks the 41st anniversary of the Race to Beat Cancer

Washington, DC, U.S.A., 2021-Jun-09 — /Travel PR News/ — Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC will begin celebrating the 41st anniversary of Race to Beat Cancer with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and Global Wellness Day to benefit MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s Washington Cancer Institute.

A core part of Four Seasons history is the inspiring story of Terry Fox and his legacy to continue raising critical funds for cancer research worldwide. This year marks the 41st anniversary of the race in DC and the 21st year of partnership with MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s Washington Cancer Institute.

Since 1980, Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC has hosted the Race to Beat Cancer benefiting cancer research in Washington, DC as a community 5k race. In the past 21 years, the race has raised more than USD 3.1 million for the cause. To ensure the continued safety and security of all involved, the race will be held virtually again this year from September 25 to October 1, 2021 with a virtual race day program on October 2, 2021. Last year proved that a virtual race could be highly impactful as an impressive USD 400,000 was raised for important cancer research.

Before the actual race this fall, there will be a weeklong sign up challenge in conjunction with Global Wellness Day and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts starting June 7, 2021. Global Wellness Day promotes good physical and mental health through complimentary, educational, and experiential wellness activities around the world.

Participants who register for the race before end of day June 13, 2021 will be entered to win one of three luxurious spa treatments at The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC. For more information, and details for signing up visit Race to Beat Cancer DC or stop by The Spa Welcome desk for more information.

“Race to Beat Cancer holds a very big place in our hearts at Four Seasons Hotel Washington DC. For 41 years our team and the DC community have worked together to help fund cancer research and clinical trials,” says Marc Bromley, Senior General Manager, Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC. “I used to run this race when we were only a small group jogging along the C&O canal each year. The fact that we have raised more than USD 3.1 million for Medstar Washington Hospital Center over the years is a testament to how much this race means to the community. I encourage you to run, walk, bike or simply donate to help us fund vital cancer research.”

“This annual event raises critical funding for cancer research at Washington Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Last year was incredibly successful as we raised more than USD 400,000,” says Christopher Gallagher, MD, medical director of Cancer Services for the Washington Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. “Creating a virtual race is the best and safest decision we could make given the circumstances and considering health and safety for all. We will continue to bring excitement, inspiration, hope and gratitude to those supporting cancer survivors and those being treated.”

The Washington Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center treats more cases of cancer than any other cancer institute in the region. It is the largest outpatient cancer center in the District of Columbia, serving nearly 82,000 outpatient visits with about 3,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed annually. No matter what the barriers may be for a patient, Washington Cancer Institute treats each individual and their family with the highest quality, compassionate care.
