2013-01-25 — /travelprnews.com/ — FirstGroup, the UK’s leading bus and rail operator, revealed today that it has donated more than £250k over the last 18 years to educational charity, The Outward Bound Trust. First, which is one of the charity’s Patron’s Company members, also confirmed that it is to provide a further £30k over the next two years.
“At The Outward Bound Trust we inspire young people to fulfil their potential through challenging outdoor experiences, raising self-esteem and preparing them to face the future with confidence,” said Martin Davidson, Scottish Director at The Outward Bound Trust. “More than a million young people have benefited from our courses and it’s thanks to the support from companies like FirstGroup that we can reach so many young people – external funding is crucial.”
Martin made a special trip to Aberdeen this week to meet with FirstGroup and explain The Trust’s objectives in 2013. “We enjoy a wonderful relationship with First – the company is one of our biggest and most loyal supporters,” added Martin. “In addition First continues to send its new graduates on an Outward Bound® course in October each year. We are incredibly grateful for its continued support.”
FirstGroup’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and Community Manager, Katie Smart, said: “The Outward Bound Trust is a terrific charity that does an incredible job helping many young people unlock their potential every year.”
She continued: “Our partnership began in 1995 and during that time we’ve provided more than £250k of funding to help disadvantaged young people attend Outward Bound courses. I’m delighted that our funding has helped thousands of young people during that time.”
