BUDAPEST, Hungary, 2018-Jul-19 — /Travel PR News/ — Budapest Airport Zrt. and Ekol Logistics Kft. have signed a lease agreement, whereby the air cargo unit of Ekol will move to the new Cargo City, scheduled for opening at the end of 2019. Late this summer, Budapest Airport will commence the construction of the new Cargo City project which will accommodate a building with warehouses and office space for air cargo handling purposes and a second warehouse building for forwarder companies.
Cargo City will have an area of approximately 20 000 square meters of warehouse and office space, with tenants, including Ekol Logistics, scheduled to move in by the end of 2019. The new cargo hub will be characterized by a fully centralized, “everything under one roof” export and import concept, i.e. the representatives of the cargo airlines (the so-called GSAs, general sales agents) and Customs will work in the same location, enabling the faster handling of special (e.g. pharmaceutical products requiring cooling) and other cargo.
Ekol is an integrated logistics company founded in Turkey in 1990. It provides best-in-class international freight, warehousing, domestic distribution, foreign trade, customs, and supply chain management services in 15 countries. With more than 7 000 employees worldwide Ekol manages no less than 1 000 000 square meters of warehouse space in different countries and offers high quality logistics service solutions to its partners.
Ekol Logistics Kft’s air cargo branch in Hungary offers a wide range of time-critical and high-value goods delivery services, such as extra fast forwarding of automotive or pharmaceutical products. These might include the so-called Hand Carry Service or the Next Flight Out (NFO) solutions where delivery is of utmost importance for customers. Ekol Logistics is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and WCA, the world’s largest network of independent freight forwarders, which allows Ekol to deliver its clients’ consignments to virtually any part of the world.
“Ekol Logistics sees great perspectives in the development of the air cargo market in Hungary, thanks in part to the capacity expansion planned by Budapest Airport and also the logistics needs of the dynamically developing Hungarian economy,” said Ákos Kovács, country manager, Ekol Hungary. He added that in addition to the parcel delivery service launched jointly with the Chinese company STO Express, they have high hopes for the air cargo business, since they will be able to provide more rapid and better quality services for partners at the new Cargo City.
Budapest Airport’s logistics partners handled already 15% more cargo during the first six months of this year compared to last year. Cargo traffic will almost certainly reach a new record this year. “We are happy to welcome Ekol Logistics and its employees amongst our airport business partners. I am certain that their new, on-airport location will greatly enhance the speed and the quality of air cargo handling for Ekol,” commented René Droese, director property and cargo for Budapest Airport.
