2013-05-16 — /travelprnews.com/ — Eighteen runners from FirstGroup and local bus operator, First Aberdeen, are taking on the Aberdeen Baker Hughes 10k this weekend and raising cash for the company’s charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.
One of the runners is 24 year old Alyson Eddie, who works as FirstGroup’s Procurement Data Analyst. She is running a 10k for the first time and explained that this is the biggest physical challenge she’s ever undertaken.
“I’ve never been into running as I’ve always felt my asthma holds me back,“ said Alyson, who lives in Fraserburgh. “However, when a number of my colleagues decided to take part and I knew we were raising money for Macmillan I decided to set myself the challenge. I was also determined not to let my asthma prevent me from doing a 10k.”
She continued: “I have followed a 10 week training plan and I’m now at a level that should see me get through the 10k without too much problems. I’ll be taking it easy and hoping for a time of around 70 minutes – which I think is ok for my first 10k.”
Alyson said she’ll be supported by a number of family and friends on the day. “I’m really excited about the event and can’t wait to get over the finishing line and see them all.”
Sally Hill, Account Manager, at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Good luck to Alyson and all the FirstGroup and First Aberdeen runners on Sunday. We’re thrilled that they’ve decided to raise money for Macmillan.”
