CTC appoints Robert Mercure to its Board of Directors

Newcomer brings vast experience in the hotel industry at home and abroad to the boardroom table.

2013-03-01 — /travelprnews.com/ — Robert Mercure, a man with hotels in his blood, is the latest addition to the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC)’s Board of Directors.

Mercure comes from a family with a long tradition in the Canadian hotel industry: he is the fourth generation to follow this calling. One of his cousins, Françoise Mercure, was even president of the Office du tourisme de Québec.

Mercure has extensive hotel-industry experience at home and abroad. He is currently the general manager of Fairmont Le Château Frontenac hotel in Québec CityQC, a job that he says is a dream and an honour in such a fabulous city. Mercure works hard to sell the hotel to both the domestic and international tourism markets. To deepen ties with the local community, he created Amis du Château, a program that offers discounts, special events and music.

Mercure has also held management positions with Fairmont in Monaco, Montréal and Toronto and ITT Sheraton in Boston and Washington. Before that, he owned and ran his own restaurant in Meredith, NH, USA, for about 10 years.

Mercure holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire and picked up a diploma in Hotel Asset Management from Cornell University, NY, in 2010. He also serves on the boards of the Association hôtelière de la région de Québec and the Office du tourisme de Québec.

Married with one child, Mercure received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for Public Service in September 2012 from The Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.

Welcome to the CTC family, Robert!
