2012-12-05 — /travelprnews.com/ — The gate to Morocco and Western Africa will open when the leading African carrier Royal Air Maroc launches direct flights from Copenhagen to Casablanca next year – a move that also will strengthen Copenhagen as a Northern European hub.
Royal Air Maroc’s first take off from Copenhagen Airport at 18:10 hours on Sunday March 31 with its Boeing B737-800 will mark new opportunities for Danish companies and leisure travelers.
“Morocco is a very popular destination with Scandinavians – in 2011, almost 62,000 passengers departed from Scandinavia to Morocco” says Mr. Abderrafia Zouiten, CEO at Royal Air Moroc.
“Royal Air Maroc also has the largest and by far the most dense route network in West Africa. This will give excellent opportunities for both Nordic business and leisure travelers throughout West Africa with a one-stop service via Casablanca,” says Mr. Abderrafia Zouiten
African growth
Several countries in West Africa like Ghana and Senegal are experiencing very positive and sustainable growth these years – generating more traffic and business.
Copenhagen Airport has seen a 17.2 percent growth in traffic to Africa in 2011. With Royal Air Maroc more growth is expected, says Thomas Woldbye, CEO at Copenhagen Airports A/S.
Extensive coverage
“Copenhagen Airport and Denmark will now have an extensive coverage of Africa with Royal Air Maroc covering the westward destinations and Egypt Air covering the eastward destinations,” said Thomas Woldbye.
“It is also very positive news that Royal Air Maroc has made an agreement with SAS on using Copenhagen Airport as their hub for Northern Europe. Here they will feed the SAS network and receive feeder traffic from SAS. This will further strengthen Copenhagen’s position as a Northern European hub,” said Thomas Woldbye.
