Chicago Department of Aviation expects over 1.6 million passengers for the Fourth of July holiday through Chicago’s airports

CHICAGO, 2015-7-3 — /Travel PR News/ — The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) anticipates more than 1.6 million passengers will travel through Chicago’s airports for the Fourth of July holiday travel period from today, July 2, 2015 through Tuesday, July 7, 2015.

Over the six-day period, airlines’ passenger projections have increased at O’Hare by 4.5 percent over 2014. An estimated 1.2 million passengers will travel through the airport during that period. Monday, July 6, is projected to be the busiest day at O’Hare, with an estimated 233,000 passengers.

Airlines at Midway anticipate a four percent increase in passenger volume compared with 2014, with more than 402,000 passengers expected over the holiday period. The busiest day at Midway is projected to be Sunday, July 5 with more than 73,000 passengers.

“On behalf of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, we are pleased to welcome travelers to Chicago’s global gateways this holiday weekend,” said CDA Commissioner Ginger S. Evans. “Our staff and airport partners are ready to help them have a safe and enjoyable travel experience.”

Both airports will host live music entertainment in the terminals for travelers today from 2 to 5 p.m.  Airport ambassadors at Midway will also offer complimentary lemonade to passengers today.

On July 4, the retail shops at O’Hare and Midway will offer a free gift with each purchase while supplies last. The featured gift is a patriotic pin, depicting the American Flag and Chicago skyline.

Families looking for a kid-friendly place to relax at O’Hare can visit the “Kids on the Fly” play area in Terminal 2. A Yoga Room is open at O’Hare Terminal 3 Rotunda, Mezzanine Level, above the entrance to G Concourse. A Yoga Room and Mothers’ Room are available at Midway in the C Concourse.

The CDA’s free cell phone lots at O’Hare and Midway are available and allow motorists to temporarily park until friends, family members or business associates have deplaned, collected baggage and are ready to be picked up curbside. The O’Hare cell phone lot is located at Economy Parking Lot F at Mannheim and Zemke Roads. The Midway cell phone lot is located at 61st Street and Cicero Avenue, just south of the main airport entrance.
