Chicago Department of Aviation celebrated the opening of new art installation called “City Windows” at O’Hare International Airport

CHICAGO, 2014-11-7 — /Travel PR News/ — Today (November 5, 2014), the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) celebrated the opening of a new art installation called “City Windows” at O’Hare International Airport. The piece was created by artist Qiao Xiaoguang, Director of the Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center at the Central Academy for Fine Arts in Beijing.

The artwork, which depicts historic and contemporary landmarks in Chicago and Beijing, was specifically designed for Terminal 1 and is located across from Gate B19.

“City Windows” highlights landmarks like Navy Pier and the Willis Tower in Chicago, and the Forbidden City and CCTV Tower in Beijing.

The work covers 15 windows and was created in traditional Chinese paper cut.

“On behalf of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, we are very pleased to welcome this installation to our wide collection of art at O’Hare and Midway International Airports,” said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “Since taking office, the Mayor has made a concentrated effort to enhance our city’s relationship with China to promote business, tourism and culture. This artwork from a renowned Chinese artist will be enjoyed by millions of visitors who travel through O’Hare from all parts of the world.”

At today’s event, Commissioner Andolino was joined by Gerald Adelmann, President and CEO of Openlands, a regional land conservation organization working in northeastern Illinois and parts of neighboring states; and Andrew Spinelli, Director of Global Strategic Initiatives for World Business Chicago. Adelmann has been involved in conversation and historical preservation projects in Chicago for more than two decades.
