Baltimore, MD, 2018-Jun-02 — /Travel PR News/ — Last evening, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport welcomed the start of international service from Icelandair, a new airline for the airport. Icelandair began roundtrip flights on Monday between BWI Marshall and Keflavik International Airport in Iceland.
“BWI Marshall is Maryland’s international gateway, and this new service will provide another convenient travel option for our citizens to travel the world, while bringing more visitors to our state,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “BWI continues to break records and act as an economic engine for our state, helping to increase tourism, create jobs, and make Maryland a regional and national leader.”
In January, Governor Hogan highlighted a new economic impact report which revealed that BWI Marshall Airport produces a total economic impact of $9.3 billion. The airport and its visitors generate and support more than 106,000 jobs throughout the region.
“We are pleased to welcome Icelandair, which will offer our travelers more international options and excellent customer service,” said Ricky Smith, Executive Director for BWI Marshall Airport. “We continue working to bolster air service opportunities for our travelers.”
Icelandair’s hub in Reykjavik connects with more than 25 cities across Europe. The airline offers four weekly roundtrip flights from BWI Marshall with its Boeing 757-200 aircraft. The airline’s fleet offers ample legroom for passengers and popular customer amenities and entertainment.

Through March 2018, BWI Marshall has set new monthly passenger records in 32 of the past 33 months. The first quarter of this year was a new record for the first three months of any year, with more than 5.9 million passengers.
