2013-07-04 — /travelprnews.com/ — As of today, the Bulgarian and Hungarian capitals are directly connected again. Bulgarian national carrier Bulgaria Air is to operate its Sofia/Budapest flight four times per week with brand-new Brazilian Embraer ERJ-190 aircraft.
Bulgaria Air will be the first foreign airline to enjoy the latest discount offered by Budapest Airport for flying thin routes, which grants a 50-percent reduction of the passenger handling charge in the first three years of operation after each completed year. Budapest Airport intends to incentivize airlines to start flights with a frequency of 2-3-4 per week on routes unused so far to fill in the still existing “white spots” of the Budapest route network.
In line with tradition, the crew of the first Sofia/Budapest flight of Bulgaria Air was welcomed by Budapest Airport with a special marzipan cake exclusively made for the occasion. The cake prepared by the confectioners of Zila Café in district 18, featuring a miniature copy of the Statue of Liberty on Gellért Hill and a statue recently unveiled in Sofia, was handed over to the crew of the first Budapest flight of Bulgaria Air by Budapest Airport route development manager Sándor Saly.
