Over 25,000 passengers pass through terminal in 24 hours
BRISTOL, UK, 2014-8-21 — /Travel PR News/ — Bristol Airport recorded another major milestone last week (Thursday 14 August), experiencing its busiest ever day with a total of 25,390 passengers passing through the terminal in 24 hours. This landmark follows record passenger numbers in the months of June (646,000*) and July (690,500*), up 3.34 per cent and 2.8 per cent respectively compared to the same periods in 2013.
A number of factors have contributed to increased passenger numbers including the introduction of a larger aircraft on KLM’s four times daily service between Bristol and Amsterdam, and high load factors on other charter and scheduled flights during the peak holiday season. June also saw the launch of a summer service between Bristol and Stockholm, operated by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), while tour operator, Just Sunshine, launched an additional Tunisia flight, further extending the choice of products and destinations available to holidaymakers from the South West and Wales.
Shaun Browne, Aviation Director at Bristol Airport, said:
“Milestones like this demonstrate that passengers are increasingly choosing the convenience of flying from their regional airport when the flights and holidays they want become available.
“By working with airlines and tour operators to extend the choice of products and destinations they offer from Bristol we hope to further reduce the need for passengers to fly from airports outside the South West. Looking ahead to 2015, we are well progressed with potential new route opportunities and expect further developments in the coming weeks.”
It has been a busy summer in more ways than one with the recently opened central walkway completed ahead of the busy summer holiday period to meet passenger and airline demand. This will be followed by the construction of an eastern terminal extension, commencing in September. The £8.6m project – the first major expansion of the terminal building since it opened in 2000 – will be finished in summer 2015.
