Amadeus and SAS announces landmark partnership on new revenue management solution

Amadeus and SAS sign landmark partnership on revenue management
Amadeus to open, a dedicated ‘Centre of Competence’ in revenue management in Copenhagen, Denmark

Madrid, Spain, 2013-06-14 — /travelprnews.com/ — Amadeus, a leading technology partner for the global travel industry, today announces a long-term, strategic partnership with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), the region’s leading airline and the flag carrier of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The landmark deal will see the carrier migrate to Amadeus’ new revenue management solution, whilst establishing an Amadeus ‘Centre of Competence’ in the process.

Later this month, Scandinavian and Wideroe will become the launch partners for Amadeus’ next generation Altéa Revenue Management solution, now incorporating full origin & destination management capability. The airlines will migrate from their in-house Origin & Destination Revenue Management System (ODRMS) to Amadeus’ new solution by early 2015, joining the eight airlines which already benefit from Amadeus’ integrated revenue management and passenger services system.

At the same time, Amadeus will open a revenue management ‘Centre of Competence’ in Copenhagen, Denmark, which will see more than 20 SAS employees, many of whom are world-renowned experts in the field, join Amadeus.

As one of the first airlines to implement origin & destination-based revenue management systems and processes in the early 1990s, SAS has long been acknowledged as a leader in this area. This wealth of expertise will now be combined with Amadeus’, where there are some 400+ highly skilled employees already working on revenue management and inventory solutions. The partnership will not only benefit the entire Altéa community but furthermore will pave the way for even greater future innovation that will help shape the next-generation of revenue generating products and services for Amadeus customers.

Magnus Rosén, Vice President Revenue Management Systems SAS Group IT, said: “At SAS, we have a long, proven heritage of innovation in revenue management, and as a business we have arguably one of the highest yields in the industry as a result of our pioneering O&D-based approach. We are confident that Amadeus’ new revenue management solution will enable us to further reinforce our leadership position in this area. In parallel we welcome the establishment of an Amadeus Centre of Competence for Revenue Management, and we look forward to working together with Amadeus to share the benefits of our joint approach to revenue management for the wider Altéa community of airlines.”

Julia Sattel, Senior VP, Airline IT, Amadeus, said: “Revenue management is an increasingly important area of focus for airlines, and one which directly impacts their bottom line. For 20 years now SAS has pioneered O&D-based revenue management, whilst at Amadeus we have been investing continuously in this area since 2006. We are therefore delighted to count SAS among our revenue management customers and to have its experts join our teams within the new dedicated Centre of Competence. I would also like to personally welcome those SAS employees who will soon be part of our company, and who will allow our customers to benefit almost immediately from their unparalleled skillset in this field. We believe that establishing this shared resource of innovation and expertise will help us deliver revenue gains, and enable cost reductions and productivity increases for our customers”.

Due to its full integration within the broader Altéa suite of applications, Amadeus Altéa Revenue Management significantly reduces the often extensive data processing that burdens revenue management systems. It offers Altéa hosted airlines a unique advantage with regard to their competitors, providing seamless access to fares, schedules, PNRs, tickets, revenues and departure control system data. To this end, this enables those airlines to anticipate and respond to the changing market environment around them, putting in place revenue management practices and availability logic, including personalisation, ancillary services and dynamic pricing.
