Airports Company South Africa confirmed British Airways aircraft BA034 collided with building at O.R. Tambo International

Johannesburg, South Africa, 2013-12-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — Airports Company South Africa has confirmed that British Airways (BA) aircraft BA034, collided with a building at O.R. Tambo International on Sunday 22 December at approximately 22:40.  The Boeing 747 – 400 en route to Heathrow Airport in London, damaged one of its wings, resulting in damage to both the aircraft and the building.

According to Airports Company South Africa, the aircraft carrying approximately 180 passengers was taxing on one of the airports taxiways preparing for departure from RWY03L when the incident occurred.

No injuries were reported on board the plane, although four ground-handling employees who were in the building at the time experienced minor injuries. BA has accommodated all passengers at a nearby hotel.

The aircraft has since been moved to a remote location and operations have not been disrupted as a result of the incident.

Airports Company South Africa said the incident will be investigated and further enquiries should be forwarded to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) as they have taken over the process.
