2012-09-12 — /travelprnews.com/ — Germany’s second largest airline has established a new department for environment and infrastructure. The department is responsible for bringing together the extensive range of measures implemented at airberlin which are focused on eco-efficient flying and the reduction of noise from aircraft.
“airberlin is setting the trend amongst the airlines in environmental terms. With our fuel consumption of only 3.5 litres per 100 passenger kilometres flown we now stand at the forefront of the European network carriers. By establishing this new department we are showing that we take our responsibility for sustainability very seriously and mean to increase our efforts in this area,” says airberlin CEO Hartmut Mehdorn.
The new department is headed by Hermann Lindner, who has many years of experience in the aviation industry. Having graduated in geology, the 54-year-old went on to work for LTU as a licensed flight dispatcher. In 1995 Lindner took over management of the traffic control centre at dba and later on management of their entire ground operations. In 2008 he moved to the Political Affairs team at airberlin where he is now a Vice President responsible for the Environment and Infrastructure department.
