Aberdeen, UK, 2019-Apr-11 — /Travel PR News/ — High street favourites Boots and technology specialists Dixons Travel have relocated to larger units, up to twice the size of the old stores.
The updated retail area also has a new staircase leading down to the lower lounge, with upgraded passenger lift also installed as part of the improvement works. The exit for arriving domestic passengers has been moved into a prominent position, easily identifiable for those leaving the airport.
Steve Szalay, Managing Director, Aberdeen International Airport said: “We’re proud to welcome our passengers to the new retail area within the departures lounge. Boots and Dixons Travel have been loyal retailers with the airport for many years and we hugely welcome their fantastic new stores.”
Frank McGibbon, Regional Manager, Dixons Travel North, South & Ireland said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Aberdeen International Airport. We have long welcomed the opportunity to move into a bigger, brighter space and significant investment by the airport has allowed us to do just that.
“We are confident our new store will offer even more choice, at the lowest prices, as well as a better overall customer experience to the airport passengers. Thanks to all in the Aberdeen airport team for continuing to partner with us as the leading technology supplier to airports in the UK & Ireland.”
Sylvia Kerr, Store Manager, Boots said: “The team and I are so excited to be part of a new store opening. The store looks fantastic, the range of products is amazing and I’m sure our customers will be delighted with their experience. The team are at their best and we will make sure that every customer leaves feeling cared for and wanting to return. It truly does feel great to be part of Boots and see all our different functions come together to produce a fantastic shop.”
Passengers are now able to move freely around the upper departures lounge, with The Distilling House, the airport’s newest eatery, fully visible following the removal of construction hoarding.
Nick Ayerst, Managing Director, TRG Concessions said: “We’re thrilled to be operating such a fantastic new pub as The Distilling House at such an exciting time for Aberdeen International Airport. This is a brilliant addition to the portfolio of dining options at the airport and it’s especially exciting to welcome new guests through our doors now that the space has been developed in such a positive way for passengers.”
The latest developments are the latest in the airport’s £20 million project into rejuvenating the terminal, with further upgrades still to come.
Steve continued: “We’re not stopping here. The next and final phase of the project involves the complete refurbishment and extension of The Globe into a much larger wine bar and restaurant, meanwhile we’ll be installing a licenced café in the area vacated by Boots.
“Previously our arriving passengers would have been exiting the airport via the construction site, but they will have a bright and spacious arrivals area to pass through.
“The terminal is looking better than ever and we’re excited about the work still to come. We’ll be ready to showcase the departures lounge by September when we’ll have an influx of passengers for Offshore Europe, one of the busiest spells for increased passenger numbers this year.”
