BlueIndy to install its Bolloré electric Bluecars at Indianapolis International Airport

BlueIndy to install approximately 20 car spaces on IND property this fall

INDIANAPOLIS, 2015-8-28 — /Travel PR News/ — The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) will join the list of locations offering customers a new, innovative and sustainable way to travel this fall. BlueIndy is installing its Bolloré electric Bluecars, in the largest U.S. rollout of plug-in carsharing. The French company picked Indianapolis as its first U.S. city for service in May 2014, with the goal of installing up to 200 stations by the end of 2016. BlueIndy’s car sharing service will be inaugurated on September 2nd at 11:00 a.m.

The partnership with BlueIndy furthers the commitment of the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) to provide convenient methods of transportation to and from the airport.

“As a key economic driver in our city, IND is always excited to embrace and take part in innovative projects, especially when it benefits the communities we serve,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA). “This exciting partnership with BlueIndy will allow us to provide a new transportation option to our customers while doing so in a sustainable and economical way.”

IND has a longstanding commitment to engage in environmentally responsible, sustainable operations while minimizing any adverse environmental impacts. The IAA works to incorporate a variety of environmental considerations into daily decision-making.

IND’s Solar Farm, the world’s largest airport-based solar farm in the world, recently won a 2015 Indianapolis Sustainability Award from the city.

The Bluecars are powered by Bolloré’s Lithium Metal Polymer (LMP) batteries. They emit no polluting particulates and consume no gasoline. The entire car is recyclable.

“Indianapolis International Airport has been honored repeatedly for its innovation and focus in serving airline passengers,” said Scott Prince, BlueIndy’s General Manager. “Providing convenient new transit options is just one more reason why IND is rated one of the best airport in the United States.”

BlueIndy will begin installation at the airport in the coming days with an expected go live date in October 2015.
