Metrolink prepares for CicLAvia by adding Bike Cars to transport participants with public transportation

Preparations require Metrolink to modify Bike Car schedule for two weeks

LOS ANGELES, 2012-10-1 — /travelprnews.com/ — Metrolink will be adding four new Bike Cars to its fleet just in time for CicLAvia on Oct. 7, 2012 to accommodate the demand for public transportation options to and from Downtown Los Angeles for the region’s largest cycling event. All 17 of Metrolink’s Bike Cars will be used on trains that were used heaviest by CicLAvia attendees on April 15. Metrolink will add multiple Bike Cars to train sets to transport as many cyclists as possible.  With Metrolink’s convenient $10 Weekend Pass, people can ride the entire system an unlimited number of times between 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Metrolink’s Bike Cars are designed to hold 18 bicycles each and space will be limited to a first-come, first-serve basis. All other Metrolink coach cars can hold three bicycles each.

Metrolink will be modifying its regular Bike Car schedule from September 30 until October 13 to move the cars to different train sets. This means that regular trains that are scheduled to have Bike Cars may not between the dates listed above. Metrolink will try to keep Bike Cars on trains with a high number of cyclists on a regular basis.

CicLAvia will make nine miles of Downtown Los Angles streets safe for people to walk, skate or ride bikes by closing off designated corridors to cars. More than 500 bikers took Metrolink to a previous CicLAvia in April.

There will be activities along the route and shop owners and restaurants will open their doors to CicLAvia participants.
