CALGARY, 2016-Dec-05 — /Travel PR News/ — YYC Calgary International Airport’s new 100,000 square foot Specialized Cargo Facility was officially opened today with a ribbon-cutting at DHL Express Canada’s expanded warehouse and logistics operation.

His Worship Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi and Mel Belich, Chair of the Board of The Calgary Airport Authority joined Andrew Williams, CEO of DHL Express Canada, in cutting the ribbon to officially open DHL’s new 38,000 square foot space – which triples the size of that company’s operations at YYC.

YYC’s newest air cargo facility provides direct access to the airport’s new dedicated cargo apron and will allow the cargo and logistics company to position itself for future growth in Calgary. It is part of YYC’s Global Logistics Parks, which connect commercial, airside and cargo handling, freight forwarding and logistics companies on more than 330 acres of land.

YYC continues to be the leading air cargo gateway in the province of Alberta. In 2015, air cargo transported through YYC rose to 134,695 tonnes, which represents more than 75 per cent of all air cargo moved in the province.
