Whistler Blackcomb: Top Athletes From Around The Globe To Compete On The Big Stage At The World Ski And Snowboard Festival April 10-19, 2015

WHISTLER, BC, 2015-3-18 — /Travel PR News/ — Top ranked snowboarders went head to head at Whistler Blackcomb this past weekend in Canada’s longest running snowboard competition, the Showcase Showdown, presented by Monster Energy, Burton Snowboards and Vans. This year’s competition featured a Canadiana themed big air contest.

After being postponed on Saturday March 14, 2015, due to high winds and heavy snowfall, the Showcase Showdown Big Air kicked off in the Nintendo Terrain Park located on Blackcomb Mountain on Sunday March 15, 2015. All riders were scored on two types of tricks – a style trick and a technical trick. After riders threw down their style and technical tricks, each rider was given the opportunity for a do-over on whatever trick they wanted to get a better score on.

After two rounds of competition and an extra bonus round, Canada Snowboard’s youngest and newest addition to the National Slopestyle team, Tyler Nicholson (CAN) landed in first place for the men along with a $10,000 cheque. Whistler’s Darcy Sharpe (CAN) nabbed second place and $4,000, and Ryan Manning (CAN) swiped third place and $2,000. Leading the women, Brooke Voigt (CAN) landed herself in first place along with a $2,500 cheque. Whistler’s Alex Duckworth (CAN) placed second with $1,500 and Brooklyn Thomson (CAN) finished in third place with $500. Nicholson and Sharpe are pre-qualified for the Monster Energy Shred Show, so the invitation was extended to Ryan Manning (CAN) who finished in third place.
