The Olympic Sochi to host for first time in its history the international hockey tournament Channel One Cup

Sochi, Russia, 2013-12-20 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Olympic Sochi for the first time in its history will be hosting the prestigious international hockey tournament – Channel One Cup. It is attended by four teams – Russia, Czech Republic, Finland and Sweden. In Sochi, from 19 to 22 December five of the tournament’s six meetings will be held. The scheduled match between Czech Republic and Finland will be held on December 19 in Prague.

For the “Bolshoy” Ice Dome, which will host the competition, the event will be the last pre-Olympic ice test. Also as part of the First Channel Cup, there will be a presentation of official pucks of the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games hockey tournaments.

The Channel One Cup is the part of the Euro Hockey Tour – an annual international ice hockey tournament, which has been held since 1996 and is regarded as a preparatory stage for the world championships and the Olympic Games.

The tournament is traditionally attended by four teams – Russia, Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic. During the year, each participating country hosts a tournament in its territory. The points earned in each tournament, are added together. The winner is the team who gets the most points after all the tournaments are summed up.

Also as part of the Channel One Cup in hockey, on December 21, the presentation of the hockey tournaments of the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games official pucks will take place. The event will be held in the lobby of the “Bolshoy” Ice Dome in the first break of the match between Russia and Finland.

The presentation will be attended by the President of the Hockey Federation of Russia, three times Olympic champion Vladislav Tretiak, as well as President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko.
