Step Up To the Plate at Hilton London Wembley

LONDON, 2012-09-11 — /travelprnews.com/ — The newly opened Hilton London Wembley invites guests to step up to the plate, to sample its extensive drinking and dining offerings. Guests can enjoy hearty, modern-British cuisine at the aptly named Association Restaurant, or relax over a pre-concert tipple, taking in spectacular views of Wembley Stadium at the stylish glass-walled Icons bar.

The 280-cover Association Restaurant serves up contemporary British fare, in keeping with the hotel’s iconic English location. Starters include pan fried breast of wood pigeon served with beetroot pickle and Bramley apple jelly, £9:50; seared Scottish Isles scallops on puréed cauliflower with pea shoots and pea vinaigrette, £12.50; and duck liver paté with toasted brioche and orange jelly, £7.50.

Head chef, Simon Volante, has a diverse culinary background having worked in both the UK and across the US, from Washington DC to Beverly Hills. The new menu has been infused with bold yet balanced flavours – crispy salmon is given an element of flair with red pepper couscous and crispy seaweed, while the five spice duck breast with red chilli dumplings and lychee jus offers diners a rich complexity and depth of flavour.

Main dishes include slow-cooked belly of pork with fondant potato, butternut squash purée and caramelised apple, £19.00; roast rump of Bolton Abbey lamb with layered potato cake, baby vegetables and rosemary gravy, £20.00; and salmon fillet served alongside crushed potato with lobster, asparagus, braised lettuce and lobster oil, £20.00. There is also a selection of dishes from the grill as well as vegetarian options.

From the desserts menu, guests can choose from a range of indulgent treats, such as sherry trifle torte with summer berries, £7.00; lemon meringue pie with lemon curd and lemon sorbet, £6.50; and strawberry Champagne delice with strawberry ice cream, £8.00

As well as à la carte options, there is also a set table d’hôte menu which is changed on a regular basis. Priced at £19.95 for two courses or £24.95 for three courses, the menu offers a choice of three starters, mains and desserts. Dishes include Cornish sardines on toast with cherry tomato and basil compote; braised lamb shank, garlic and thyme mash rosemary gravy; and lemon posset with berry sorbet.

Icons bar is the perfect setting to enjoy an after work drink or post-dinner nightcap. Guests can sample its extensive selection of traditional and contemporary cocktails, blended using only the freshest ingredients by the hotel’s expert mixologists. Popular favourites like the Harvey Wallbanger, Singapore Sling, Mint Julep and Strawberry Daquiri will be available, as well as a contemporary cocktails selection, which includes:

  • Pink Orchid – an exotic and fruity blend of Grey Goose vodka, cranberry juice and watermelon liqueur, £8.00
  • Espresso Martini – a modern take on a much-loved classic, using Smirnoff Red, creamy Kahlua, syrup de gomme and the finest coffee, £8.00
  • Cucumber Cooler – a refreshing and invigorating mix of Hendricks gin, fresh cucumber, zesty lime and cooling tonic, £8.00
  • Hell’s Bells – a firey concoction combining Bells Whisky, Drambuie, chilli, passion fruit and lemonade, £9.00
