Stagecoach recognises outstanding UK Bus apprentices

Perth, Scotland, 2017-Sep-20 — /Travel PR News/ — Stagecoach’s top UK Bus apprentices have been recognised at the company’s 13th annual Apprentice of the Year Awards.

Ten bus engineering apprentices were awarded for their outstanding performance at the company’s largest ever awards ceremony at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

The winners received cash prizes and individual trophies and tools supplied by event sponsors ADL, Optare, the Society of Operations Engineers, Teng Tool, Volvo Roadcrew, Scania and Juratek.

This year, the top prize winner in each year group will be given a trip to the Scania factory and training facility in Sweden, while the third year winners will be invited by Juratek to attend the final rounds of the British Truck Racing Championships at Brands Hatch as part of the pit crew.

Matthew Sanderson from Stagecoach Yorkshire was awarded first place in the third year apprentice category for the second year running. Brandon Rutley from Stagecoach South West took second place and Shane Foster from Stagecoach East Midlands, was awarded third place.

In the year two awards, Stagecoach West Scotland apprentice Ross McGarvey received the first place award. Thomas Moorby from Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire was awarded second place while Tyrone Wells from Stagecoach London and David Hall from Stagecoach South West were awarded joint third place.

Winner of the year one category was Matt Antill from Stagecoach Manchester, with Jordan Davison from Stagecoach North East in second place and Jake Hodson from Stagecoach South West in third.

38 tool prizes provided by Teng Tools and Volvo Roadcrew were awarded for outstanding achievements in categories including depot vote, peer vote, end of block test results.

Our winners this year have all worked to an exceptionally high standard and they thoroughly deserve their awards.

Stagecoach has invested millions of pounds in its UK Bus apprenticeship programme which has benefitted hundreds of apprentices. The company currently employs 172 apprentices across its UK Bus operations.

The company runs a four-year programme in mechanical / electrical (mechelec) engineering or body work engineering. On successful completion of year three, the apprentice currently receives a Modern Apprenticeship (Scotland) or an Advanced Apprenticeship (England and Wales) in Bus and Coach Engineering Maintenance, which is graded as a S/NVQ level 3. On successful completion of the fourth year of the programme, the apprentice is accredited as a member of the Institute of the Motor Industry.
