SFO to adjust the duration of free parking in short-term garages to 10 minutes

Hourly parking garages revert to 10 minutes free effective October 1, 2019

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, 2019-Sep-03 — /Travel PR News/ — The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) announced plans to adjust the duration of free parking in short-term garages to 10 minutes from 30 minutes effective October 1, 2019. With this move, SFO will conclude a test program which offered 30 minutes of free parking during peak summer and holiday travel seasons. The goal of the test program was to reduce roadway congestion, by providing an alternative location for pickups and drop-offs. Although other policy changes have yielded an improvement in traffic flow, the 30-minute free parking program did not have an appreciable impact in reducing congestion. The concept may be re-evaluated for future use during peak travel seasons.

Effective Tuesday, October 1, 2019, any vehicles which enter and exit the hourly garages within 10 minutes will not be charged. Vehicles parked in the garages for longer than 10 minutes will be charged for the full duration of their stay.
