An Arts Event Produced by the Artists of San Antonio

2013-02-18 — /travelprnews.com/ — The ideal time to experience San Antonio’s artistic diversity is during Luminaria, an arts event produced by the artists of San Antonio. This city’s remarkable history and culture have crafted an arts scene as warm and diverse as its people. From award-winning authors that capture the city’s heritage to contemporary artists who bring traditions into the mainstream, the stories of San Antonio are making their mark on the nation’s artistic footprint.

“This annual celebration of the arts has become a hallmark event, showcasing San Antonio as a creative and contemporary hub,” says San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro.  “I invite everyone to come and experience an extraordinary Luminaria event that showcases our vibrant downtown.”

Held on March 9, 2013 from 7 p.m. – 12 a.m. in historic Hemisfair park and neighboring downtown, Luminaria is free and open to the public. Festival-goers can expect to see examples of dance, literary, media, music, performance, and visual arts when more than 600 artists from San Antonio and across the nation showcase over 85 projects on eight stages. The word Luminaria refers to a traditional light or lantern popular in Latino cultures and ubiquitous in San Antonio. The notions of illumination, energy, warmth and tradition inspired by this icon are integral to the theme of this event.
