Rosewood Hotels & Resorts unveils newly transformed Rosewood Mayakoba

Riviera Maya, Mexico, 2019-Nov-06 — /Travel PR News/ — A new destination for wellness and luxury emerges amidst the emerald jungle and white sand beaches of Riviera Maya with the unveiling of Rosewood Mayakoba, fresh from a total transformation of its 129 on-property suites, introduction of eight dedicated Wellness Suites, fully enhanced three- and four-bedroom Presidential Suites, and debut of Zapote, an innovative bar experience showcasing the deep culinary traditions of Mexico. Following an investment of over $20 million, these extraordinarily reimagined accommodations and offerings reflect a fresh, modern take on Mexican craftsmanship, a holistic approach to wellness and interactive guest experience that the leading luxury resort exemplifies, ready for guests to enjoy by late 2019.

“Our goal in re-imagining the experience of Rosewood Mayakoba began by devoting ourselves to what makes the region so special: its people, history and natural environment.  We challenged ourselves and our partners to find creative, inviting, and stunning ways to reflect and be inspired by local culture in all elements of the design,” shared Daniel Scott, Managing Director and Regional Vice President of Rosewood Mayakoba. “We cannot wait for guests to experience this new environment and discover how it connects to their own journey and sense of escape.”

Spearheaded by New York-based design firm Bando x Seidel Meersseman, the enhanced suites celebrate the craftmanship of Mexican artisans. To do so, Rosewood Mayakoba consulted with a local anthropologist, drawing inspiration from the past to create a contemporary present. Continuing its support for the community, the suites will feature custom, modern furniture created with locally fabricated and sourced materials made in collaboration with artisans in the area. Mayan artistries such as pottery and embroidery are found in all suites, from embroidered pillows made with natural fibers to large Barro clay pots and woven benches made exclusively for the resort. Indigenous materials distinctive to the region such as lava stone and natural woods, like Parota, Cumaru and Rosa Morada, are also embodied in the modern furniture. Light tones are intentionally added to all of the resort’s sun-bathed suites to complement the lush, verdant elements soaking up the natural light. The beachfront suites are accented by warm clay tones while the lagoon suites encompass blue and green accents, drawing from the colors of the lagoon and surrounding jungle. Every suite has a private outdoor pool, creating a secluded and relaxed setting to rejuvenate in the tropical oasis.

This restoration ties together Rosewood Mayakoba’s overarching value of balance and respect for both the environment and local community, taking a holistic approach to sustainable luxury and responsible sourcing by weaving together sustainable design and execution to create a unique destination.

Integrated Ecosystem for Wellness
Located on its own private island amongst Mayakoba’s freshwater lagoons are eight new Wellness Suites dedicated to enhancing guests’ inner self-journey and heighten tranquility and renewal. Debuting in December 2019, the community of Wellness Suites is created to feel like an exclusive hotel inside an ultra-luxury resort, providing guests with a private destination to focus on within. A pioneer in luxury wellness with the award-winning, five-star Sense spa, Ayurvedic wellness program and Marry Oneself, a personal journey dedicated to self-acceptance and self-love, Rosewood Mayakoba has always taken an integrated and personalized approach to wellness, being a destination that emphasizes the interconnected nature of the mind, body and spirit. With this in mind, the Wellness Suites are carefully designed, with both its indoor and outdoor amenities, to touch on all of these elements.

Each of the eight loft-style suites feature a private salt therapy pool with views of the serene lagoons, utilizing the medicinal qualities of salts and minerals to provide support for the immune and nervous systems. An outdoor serenity pavilion in the private garden is created for yoga, personal training, massage or individual sessions with the resort’s shaman while a reflexology fountain provides support for the circulation system and lymphatic drainage.

In-suite wellness amenities include enhanced sleeping tools such as a circadian light lamp that simulates the natural movement of the sun while skin care pillow cases, made with microfibers, help prevent sleep lines and moisture loss. Essential oil shower heads provide antioxidant and regenerating properties for the skin and in-room oil diffusers, reflective of ancient traditions of Ayurveda and aromatherapy, are made with herbs handpicked from the La Ceiba garden. A wellness station and reconceptualized mini bar, complete with a super food menu, alkaline water dispenser, pressed juices and herbal teas, are created exclusively for the Wellness Suites by Chef Juan Pablo Loza, Director of Culinary Operations at Rosewood Mayakoba. Guests of the Wellness Suites will also enjoy complimentary access to all scheduled fitness classes.

Continuing to raise the bar as a leader in luxury wellness, every guest who checks into the Wellness Suite will be assigned a “wellbeing butler” who will help curate a tailored experience to meet the guests’ goals. This complete wellness journey includes innovative, transformative rituals customized for each guest based on their health and wellness needs and will provide guests with deeply transformative experiences set against the pristine beauty of the Riviera Maya.

Nature and Luxury Converge
The resort’s two lavish Presidential Suites distinctly blend the best of indoor and outdoor living. The expanded Beachfront Four Bedroom Presidential Suite features floor-to-ceiling windows, giving way to ample natural sunlight that radiates the warm, modern interiors. Each space is layered with a curated collection of refined, locally sourced art and reclaimed items. Fresh linens, embroidered textiles and locally crafted objects made of hand-hammered metal, carved lava stone, glazed ceramics and blown glass are thoughtfully brought together to provide an experience of elevated comfort, relaxed elegance and “A Sense of Place”. Situated along the horizon is a 20-meter infinity lap pool that runs parallel to the ultra, blue Caribbean waters and the pristine white beaches iconic to Rivera Maya. Located directly in front of the suite is a secluded beach enclosed with natural vegetation, palm trees and lounge chairs to relax and take in the surrounding paradise.

Alternatively, by way of a private bridge to a small island in the Mayakoba lagoon, the Lagoon Three Bedroom Presidential Suite awaits with private plunge pools, outdoor alfresco dining, and a floating 270-degree lounge.  The three-bedroom presidential suite has radial walls, forming a private jungle enclave that floats above the surface of the lagoon. Inspired by the Mayan archeology and the surrounding wildlife, both presidential suites feature statement furniture pieces crafted in abstracted forms of the Mayakoba animals along with original artwork by Mexican artist Jorge Abundis of “the birds of Mayakoba.”

Presidential Suites bookings include daily in-suite continental breakfast and roundtrip airport transfers.

Modern Mexican Cocktail Destination
Debuting in December 2019, Zapote will be an open-air, communal area for relaxed conversation, music, and above all else a place to discover Mexico’s tradition of agave spirits, mezcal cocktails and culinary traditions.  Working in partnership with Licorería Limantour, Mexico City’s leading cocktail bar and named in the top 10 of The World’s 50 Best Bars, Zapote will feature local and rare spirits from leading distillers and makers as well as libations featuring indigenous Mexican herbs and spices.

Zapote will host a dynamic roster of local and international guest bartenders, visiting chefs and musical talents.  Each month, renowned cocktail specialists from Tulum, Cancun and Merida as well as those visiting from leading cities around the world will takeover the bar with specially featured drinks each month. Throughout the year, Zapote will also invite respected guest chefs from Mexico and abroad to collaborate by creating pop-up bar menus. Different nights will also bring featured live musical guests ranging in sounds and styles.

Inspired by the Mayan philosophy “In Lek’ech,” meaning “you are my other me,” every server and bartender at Zapote will be trained as a Drink Specialist. As such, there will be a constant rotation between the bar staff and the wait staff in order to forge deeper connectivity and informed conversations with guests.

Designed to evoke a colonial hacienda, a large communal table will anchor Zapote as the center piece of the space that runs perpendicular to an interactive chef’s table and kitchen. Natural light shines through the floor-to-ceiling windows and highlights the raw beauty of the natural elements used throughout Zapote, such as poured concrete walls and rustic, wooden tables and chairs. Similar to the suites, locally sourced and found artisanal items are used to decorate the space such as handmade clay pottery and handwoven baskets. A private dining room along with an outdoor garden complete with luscious plants native to Mexico round out the rest of space.
Designed by Group Echo from Mexico City, Zapote is named for the indigenous tree, which reflects the focus upon locally and sustainably sourced ingredients, including items grown in the resort’s own nearby gardens.

Zapote joins Aqui Me Quedo, the resort’s new adults-only, beachfront oasis that opened earlier this year where traditional Mexican cooking techniques, relaxed vibe and elegant residential setting have quickly made it a sought-after destination on property.
