CHICAGO, 2012-09-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — On October 20, O’Hare International Airport’s northernmost runway will take a brief rest from handling aircraft and instead welcome thousands of runners and walkers to raise money for a very important cause.

The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) and United Airlines are partnering to host a  5K Run on the Runway at O’Hare to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, which raises funds and awareness of the needs of injured military service members.

People of all ages including runners, walkers, and aviation enthusiasts, are invited to visit one of the world’s busiest airports to experience a runway up-close and personal from the ground level. The 5K course will take participants underneath the wings of a United Airlines aircraft parked on the airfield – offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience during the race and amazing photo opportunities afterwards.

The day’s activities will also include a free “Community Day” event for the 5K participants, families, and the surrounding communities.

In conjunction with the 5K run/walk, the CDA and its airport partners will hold a free  outdoor “Community Day” festival featuring food vendors, live music, entertainment, fun activities for kids and families – including a kids race, trolley rides to the runway, and exhibits featuring specialized aircraft and airport equipment.

Registration for the 5K run and “Community Day” activities is now open.  Click here for more information.
