Qatar Duty Free opens the new Italian “al fresco” style restaurant Soprafino at Hamad International Airport

Italian chef brings award-winning cuisine to new world-class dining concept

DOHA, Qatar, 2014-9-9 — /Travel PR News/ — Qatar Duty Free (QDF) celebrated the official opening of the new Italian “al fresco” style restaurant, Soprafino, today at Hamad International Airport (HIA) with celebrity chef and partner, Massimo Capra.

“We are incredibly honoured that Chef Capra was able to join us for this inaugural event,” says Senior Vice President, Keith Hunter, Qatar Duty Free. “It has been a real pleasure working with Massimo to create this world-class Italian dining concept, which raises the bar to a new level and further enhances our passengers’ experiences at HIA. This dining destination has been developed and designed by us with the passenger foremost in mind,” he adds.

Well-known for his simple and uncomplicated approach to classic Italian cuisine, which is executed with a sense of flair and fun, the chef always adds a contemporary twist to traditional dishes such as his signature tagliatelle bolognese, risotto and pizza. The menu at Soprafino embodies core Italian family values and children are made very welcome at this friendly, family restaurant.

Chef Capra began his culinary journey in Salsomaggiore, Parma, before moving to Canada in 1982 where he became a household name with his successful cook books, One Pot Italian and Three Chefs the Kitchen Men, his TV show Gourmet Escapes and his recent nomination as a judge on the number one food show, Chopped Canada. Massimo is also the chef and co-owner of two Toronto mainstays, the Zagat-rated, Mistura, and exclusive supper club, Sopra Upper Lounge, as well as being the creative force behind the recently re-launched Rainbow Room in Niagara Falls’ Crowne Plaza Hotel. For the last two years, passengers travelling through Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, have also been lucky enough to have the opportunity to dine at Massimo’s Boccone Trattoria Restaurant and Boccone Pronto, which have recently been nominated as Best Chef Led Restaurants in an airport by the Globe & Mail and CNN.net.

“Since my arrival in Toronto in 1982, I have been on this amazing and wonderful path of being able to share my passion with so many people across Canada. So when the opportunity to partner with Qatar Duty Free came up and branch my passion to Middle Eastern and international travellers alike, it was a no brain-er,” says Chef Capra. “It was a perfect fit – Qatar Duty Free brings my same passion for food to travellers all over the world. Their attention to detail and quality is equally matched to mine and together, I believe we will bring a new and exciting dynamic to Hamad International Airport and its travellers,” he concludes.
