Qantas to appoint Tony Tyler as a Non-Executive Director

SYDNEY, Australia, 2018-Sep-04 — /Travel PR News/ — Qantas Chairman Leigh Clifford today (30TH AUGUST 2018) announced the intention to appoint Tony Tyler as a Non-Executive Director to the Board of Qantas Airways Limited.

In welcoming Mr Tyler, the Chairman said he would bring significant experience in commercial aviation as well as in key overseas markets.

“Tony is one of the world’s most seasoned airline executives. He’s been involved in commercial aviation for almost 40 years, including as CEO of Cathay Pacific and head of the International Air Transport Association. He’s also served on various airline boards.

“His industry knowledge runs deep and so does his experience of doing business in Asia, which is a key market for the Qantas Group. Tony’s perspective will be a valuable addition to the knowledge already on the Board,” added Mr Clifford.

Mr Tyler said: “Qantas is one of the world’s most iconic airlines and it continues to be responsible for a lot of innovation in commercial aviation. I’m very excited to join the board and I look forward to contributing to the Group’s continued success.”

Mr Tyler will formally join the board in October 2018 subject to a shareholder vote on his appointment.

About Tony Tyler

Tony Tyler started his career in aviation with Cathay Pacific in 1978, where he had a series of commercial, operational and executive management roles in Europe, North America and Asia. This included being the airline’s Chief Operating Officer from 2005–07 and then its CEO from 2007–11. He also served as the Director General and CEO of the International Air Transport Association from 2011–16, which is the peak body for global aviation and represents some 290 airlines. Mr Tyler’s current board appointments include BOC Aviation Limited and Bombardier Inc. His other board experience includes Dragonair, Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company and the UK-based National Air Traffic Services (NATS).
