Passenger traffic at Sheremetyevo has grown by 17%

2012-10-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — Sheremetyevo has set two records for daily traffic; on September 14th, 726 takeoff and landing operations were conducted, and on September 16th, the airport served over 100 thousand passengers for the first time in its history

From January to August of 2012, Sheremetyevo International Airport served 17 million 429 thousand passengers, which is 17.1% higher compared to the same period in 2011. Over eight months in 2012, passenger traffic on international airlines (IAL’s) grew by 19% to 11 million 460 thousand people, while traffic on domestic airlines (DAL’s) grew by 14%, and amounted to 5 million 969 thousand air travellers.

The number of passengers served in August of 2012 increased by 15.4%, to 2 million 873 thousand. Passenger traffic on IAL’s in August grew by 22.3% and amount to 1 million 963 thousand people, while traffic on DAL’s grew by 3%, to 909 thousand passengers.

The most popular foreign destinations over these eight months of 2012 were: Antalya, Paris, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, Prague, Beijing, and Istanbul, while the most popular domestic destinations were Saint Petersburg, Sochi, Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad and Rostov-on-Don.

From January—August of 2012, Sheremetyevo Airport conducted 151,932 takeoff and landing operations (TLO’s), which is 9.8% higher than for the same period in 2011. The number of TLO’s in August grew by 6.6%, to 21,372.

On September 14th, 2012, Sheremetyevo Airport conducted 726 takeoff and landing operations (TLO’s), setting a new daily record for this productivity indicator. These values were reached thanks to the integrated use of two takeoff and landing runways (TLR’s), as well as the recommended ICAO practices to apply reduced separation minimums on TLR’s and the implementation of operational procedures to reduce the time aircraft spend on the TLR’s.

Furthermore, on September 16th, 2012, Sheremetyevo Airport set a new daily record for passenger traffic, which amounted to 100,970 air travelers. The primary factor in the growth of passenger traffic at Sheremetyevo is connected with the successful development of Aeroflot, the basic airline, as well as the Transaero and Nordwind airlines doubling their flights during the current vacation season.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is the largest Russian airport which handles internal and international airlines. 83,04% of the shares of JSC SIA belong to the state represented by Federal Property Management Agency. Sheremetyevo Airport’s network of routes includes more than 200 destinations.

In 2011, Sheremetyevo’s total passenger traffic was 22,555,000 people, which is 16.7% more than in 2010.

In 2010 airport Sheremetyevo became a leader in the increasing of passenger traffic among the European airports, the airport handled19,329,000 passengers, which is 31% more than in 2009.

According to the results of the quality research program in the world airports ASQ ACI (Airport Service Quality) airport Sheremetyevo was reckoned among 10 top best European airports in 2011.

According to the annual rating of Skytrax Research company (Great Britain), Sheremetyevo International Airport is one of the three best airports in Eastern Europe in terms of quality of service.
