2012-10-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — easyJet, Northern Ireland’s largest airline, today launched its new service from Belfast International Airport to Birmingham. The route increases the airline’s destinations from Belfast International to 23 – equalling the highest number of routes it has operated from the airport.
There will be daily flights to Birmingham until Sunday. From Monday 29 October there will be two flights daily from Monday-Friday and one on Saturday and Sunday.
Northern Ireland’s Transport Minister Danny Kennedy MLAwas at the launch and welcomed the new route. He said:
“This will undoubtedly enhance access between Northern Ireland and the Midlands and I am pleased that easyJet is increasing the choice for consumers.”
The estimated flight time is around an hour. On weekdays from 29 October the departure times will be 07:10 and 17:50. The Saturday flight will depart at 07:10 and the Sunday flight at 16:30.
Ali Gayward, easyJet commercial manager, said:
“This new route has been driven by customer demand and we are delighted to launch an easy and affordable option of travel from Belfast to the city of Birmingham.
“Our flights to Birmingham will be year-round. We will be flying at peak times to meet the needs of our business passengers and the fares will also offer leisure passengers affordable access to the Midlands.”
It takes less than two minutes to go from Birmingham Airport to Birmingham International railway station, using the SkyRail train service that operates every two minutes.
Birmingham International station offers direct access to business centres throughout the region. Travellers wishing to go into the centre of Birmingham will be able to do so easily with a 10-15 minute rail journey to Birmingham New Street station.
Ali Gayward added:
“There is a host of attractions in and around Birmingham, from the National Motorcycle Museum, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Premier League football, to major events at the NEC (National Exhibition Centre), and Christmas fairs.
“Birmingham also offers leisure travellers access to many attractions. For example, Shakespeare Country, including his birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon, is conveniently close to Birmingham Airport.”

“Birmingham was an obvious gap on the departure boards at Belfast International Airport and we are delighted that easyJet is able to reaffirm their commitment to the region with the launch of this new route.
“Strong business connections exist in the computer technology, engineering and hospitality sectors, to name but a few, and of course the West Midlands is home to such high-profile companies as Cadbury.
“It’s clear that business between the two regions will benefit significantly from easyJet’s excellent value fares and service.”
Flights are now on sale at easyJet.com, with fares from £27.49 one-way including taxes.
