New Frankfurt flight takes off from Bristol Airport

Six per week service to Germany’s financial capital to go double daily in May

2013-04-02 — /travelprnews.com/ — Frankfurt becomes the latest German city on Bristol Airport’s destination map today (2 April 2013) when bmi regional commences a new six-times a week service to the city. The departure of the first flight just after midday marks the return of a direct link between Bristol and Germany’s financial capital after a gap of almost four years.

For several years German destinations have featured strongly in ‘most wanted routes’ surveys carried out by Bristol Airport, particularly when considering responses from the business community. But, until recently, the German market has been underserved from the South West and South Wales, forcing many passengers to travel to airports in other regions in order to fly direct.

Since opening a base at Bristol Airport, bmi regional has moved to meet this demand with the launch of a double daily Hamburg link in February followed by the announcement of services to Hannover and Munich, as well as the Frankfurt flight which takes off today. The airline – which has been top of the UK punctuality league table for the past seven years in succession – also operates a double daily flight from Bristol to Aberdeen and will commence a daily service to Milan in May.

From 13 May, the Frankfurt service will operate twice a day, six days a week, with the schedule designed to make a day’s business trip possible

Steve Hoy, Chief Commercial Officer at bmi regional, said:
“We’re excited to launch another new route that connects the south west of England to a European commercial and financial centre. This demonstrates our commitment to further enhancing the connectivity of the region across the UK and Europe. We now operate four routes from Bristol Airport to major German business hubs including Frankfurt, Hanover, Munich and Hamburg which can only benefit businesses in the area. We’re looking forward to further expanding our route network throughout 2013.”

Shaun Browne, Aviation Director at Bristol Airport, said:
“Frankfurt is an interesting destination for leisure visitors, but the big win is for businesses across the South West and South Wales who now have a direct link to one of Europe’s leading commercial centres.”

bmi regional operates an all jet fleet. Complimentary food and drinks are served onboard, and passengers receive a free 20kg hold baggage allowance.
