2013-08-27 — /travelprnews.com/ — Mentoring is a tried and tested method in the Lufthansa Group for the promotion of equality of opportunity for women and men within the context of personnel development. In September, the Cross Mentoring programme already initiated by Lufthansa in 1999 will start with the 15th generation of women with professional ambitions.
Currently, the Group is running the programme in cooperation with Axel Springer, Robert Bosch, Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, Fraport, Hewlett-Packard, Merck and Sanofi Deutschland. The special feature of Cross-Mentoring: the networking of talented women and experienced executives across company limits. This makes it possible to take a look beyond one’s familiar surroundings at another corporate culture and its rules of the game.
The focus is on women embarking on a management career with high career ambitions, who are accompanied for a year by a male or female mentor from one of the other companies. In confidential discussions, the consulting mentors and their charges, the mentees, devote their attention to questions and procedures with respect to career, profession/family and position within the company. In this exchange, the candidate benefits from the experience and the network of her mentor. But the latter, too, can analyse their own management role in these discussions.
No wonder, therefore, that both sides have only positive aspects to report about their participation in the programme and the expansion of their network. Most of the Lufthansa mentees can report about the next career step and the Lufthansa mentors have won valuable impulses for their work. This year, the Lufthansa Group is participating with 10 mentees and 10 mentors in this “double change of perspective”.
