A Chevrolet Volt uses one on the new Level 2 Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers located in Parking Structure 7. A total of 18 new installations were recently energized, offering a total 81 Level 2 EV chargers for public use at LAX, and eight at the LAX FlyAway® Bus Terminal in Van Nuys.
Los Angeles, California, 2017-Feb-15 — /Travel PR News/ — Responding to the ever-growing number of electric vehicles (EVs) on Southern California’s roadways, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has installed 18 Level 2 EV charging stations in Parking Structure 7 (across from Terminal 7). The new chargers bring the number of Level 2 EV charging stations at LAX to 81, with another eight chargers at the LAX FlyAway® bus terminal in Van Nuys. While motorists pay the posted parking fee, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) provides the electric charging free.
“The neighborhoods surrounding LAX suffer the traffic coming to and from the airport and the pollution those cars cause,” said Los Angeles City Councilmember Mike Bonin, whose District 11 includes LAX. “By installing EV charging stations and encouraging people to drive zero-emission vehicles, LAWA is helping to make the air we breathe cleaner and I greatly appreciate their work.”

These initiatives reflect LAWA’s commitment to delivering gold standard airports that operate sustainably and responsibly.”
LAWA’s 89 publicly available Level 2 EV chargers can be found at: Parking Structure 1 (19 chargers plus a DC Fast Charger); Parking Structure 6 (20 chargers); Parking Structure 7 (18 chargers); Park N Fly/Park One (four chargers); Economy Parking Lot C (20 chargers); and the FlyAway® Bus Terminal in Van Nuys (eight chargers).
The Level 2 EV chargers were provided as part of a June 2016 agreement between LAWA and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP). The chargers are paid for in part by a DWP program that offers rebates of up to $4,000 per EV charger bought and installed, in addition to funds from a $500,000 grant awarded to the City of Los Angeles by the California Energy Commission.
The installations were performed by LAWA’s Facilities & Technical Services Division’s Electrical Shop and Building Construction Unit.
