2012-08-27 — /travelprnews.com/ — The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 908,624 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in July, which represents a decrease of 8.4 percent from July 2011. Passenger boardings at KCI were down 8.7 percent, with a total of 458,084 during July. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 2,928,596, an increase of 0.4 percent from the same period last year.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for July was 185. Service was offered to 45 nonstop markets. There was an average of 37,235 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, down 8.9 percent from last year.
“The decreases in July passenger statistics relate to a significant decrease in monthly departures and available seats,” said Tom McKenna, director of marketing for the Aviation Department. “This trend should continue through the summer as July and August show significant reductions in capacity by airlines at KCI.”
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were down 3.1 percent in July. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is up 1.7 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during July amounted to over 14.5 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year decrease of 2.7 percent. Air mail for July was down 16.1 percent from July 2011. The all-cargo carriers reported 4 daily departures for July.
