Gatwick Airport launches new, couples’ pampering service to give men pre-holiday grooming

  • Gatwick launches free couples’ pampering service to get men groomed and ‘flip flop ready’ ahead of their holidays
  • Treatments include foot waxing, MAN-icures and pedicures, and couples’ sessions are free for a limited time
  • Nearly two thirds of men (64 per cent) admit to doing minimal personal grooming before a holiday, whereas 87 per cent of women will prep and prime before vacationing

United Kingdom, 2017-Jun-22 — /Travel PR News/ — With two thirds of men admitting that they do minimal pre-holiday grooming, Gatwick Airport has launched a new, couples’ pampering service to help females get their partners beach-ready before jetting off.

For many men, the summer holiday is the only time of year that their feet and legs see the light of day. So, to help them get ‘flip flop ready’, Gatwick has launched a new pre-holiday grooming service for couples to enjoy together. Couples flying together from the airport will be able to enjoy a free pedicure or MAN-icure before they depart, at Gatwick’s new, in-terminal CloudSpa. The pilot scheme will also include a foot waxing service for men with fuzzy feet who are willing to take the heat.

Nearly two thirds of males (64 per cent) admit to doing next to no pre-holiday grooming (or at least no more than the bare minimum of getting a haircut) so it comes as no surprise that their female counterparts are keen for them to get in on the action. Over half (61 per cent) of women said they would be keen to give their partner at least one extra beauty treatment before their holiday together. In addition to this, a fifth of males (19 per cent) believe their partner is embarrassed by their lack of pre-holiday grooming

Females were also found to spend almost twice as long as their male counterparts on their pre-holiday grooming regime (2.7 hours compared to 1.5 hours), and also spent significantly more on products and treatments (£95 per trip compared to £57 per trip).

CEO of CloudSpa, Joel Sutton said:

“Since opening, we’ve had couples come together to both have manicures and pedicures and even had some ladies wanting their partners to get a brow tidy! Offering the free treatments for couples will hopefully encourage more men to try treatments to get beach ready and feel less worried about what their partner thinks of their grooming habits!”

Despite the research finding clear differences between the sexes, it appears that several men do still enjoy a pamper, with over a quarter (26 per cent) admitting they like undergoing pre-holiday grooming treatments as it gets them excited about their holiday, compared to 58 per cent of women.

Furthermore, 21 per cent of males also say they’re too busy in the lead up to their holiday to get all the grooming treatments they wanted to done, so a visit to CloudSpa will be a convenient stop as they prepare for holidays.

Retail Business Development Manager at Gatwick Airport, Denise Weekes said:

“We know that women typically enjoy a pre-holiday pamper, but we have also seen an increase in male grooming, so want to offer something that both men and women can take advantage of before they fly. This pilot pampering scheme will offer couples the opportunity to put their feet up and feel polished before they jet off, so whether you’re looking for an excuse for your partner to join you, or if they simply didn’t have time ahead of their holiday – there’s a range of treatments on offer that are quick and fuss-free!”

A limited number of couples’ treatments will be available at CloudSpa in Gatwick’s North Terminal, starting from Monday 19 June 2017.
